My students are very unique and all have different learning needs. This requires IEP's (Individual Educational Program) for each student, accommodations, and modifications to help them learn how to read. Most of my students struggle with language and reading comprehension. Some of my students can read and decode words but they struggle with comprehending what they read. Some of my students are non-verbal and have moderate to severe cognitive deficits. With your generous donations, I will be able to create color-adapted books that include color visuals/pictures and sentences. My students will be able to participate in reading the stories and answering comprehension questions using color laminated visuals. My non-verbal students can also participate and answer questions receptively using adapted books. These books can be used continuously.
Your donations will help all my students improve their decoding and comprehension skills. The adapted books will also help me teach social and behavioral skills through social stories. These adapted books can also be used for my small/whole group and one-on-one instruction. After being home for over a year during distance learning, my students with autism need support to rebuild their behavior and communication skills, so they can function appropriately in the classroom setting. Your support will help me incorporate more adapted books into my classroom instruction and to promote literacy, behavioral and communication skills for my awesome hard-working students.
