After coming back from learning at home many of my sixth and seventh graders really struggle with being back in the classroom environment, staying in their seats, and regulating to the new normal. These tools such as the wobbly seats, foot pad, and chair bands will teach students how to find comfort in their space while still allowing their bodies to express their energy and allow movement. Students find these resources to be calming, soothing, and helpful. Additionally, I plan to hang the LED lights around my room so I can color code the voice level or activity level that can be in the room (Green for go on conversation, Red for silent independent work, blue for small group discussion on a low level...). Lastly, I would like to implement a timer that students can work with time in manageable chunks (example: Red classroom, silent work, expectation 15 minutes).
