I teach Family and Consumer Sciences. In my classes, we are learning about families and human development. My goal in my class is to teach and inspire my students to become "chain-breakers". I want them to understand where they came from but also understand where they need to go. This means breaking negative generational lifestyles and dreaming of a better life for their future children. To do this, students need to see the effects of choices.
Students become "chain-breakers" when we give them real-world examples of the effects of poor choices. A Child Called IT provides a true example of the effects of child abuse. I want my students to read the book to better understand how we take our childhood past and turn it all for good.
