The pandemic has created many challenges for my science class as many children were not fully prepared for the academic standards and rigor of 6th grade science. Many students had limited opportunity to interact and engage with students in a classroom setting due to virtual learning requirement during COVID-19. Being able to collaborate and problem solve in science is pivotal to their understanding of the academic standards. Therefore, to foster collaborative environment with their peers, it is imperative to incorporate hands-on learning activities that allows students to solve real world problems in my classroom. Students will be able to take advantage of the heat lamps, thermometers, glue guns and stick throughout our Thermal Heating unit. We will cover the Next Generation Science Standards MS-PS3-3-Applying scientific principles to design, construct, and test a device that either minimizes or maximizes thermal energy transfer. MS-ESS3-3 Apply principles to design a method for monitoring and minimizing a human impact on the environment.
