"Separating Difference From Disability With ELLs" is the title of the online course I would like to take. I am a third-year teacher and a second-year English Language Development teacher. I see myself growing in this field as I truly enjoy my job and I know there is an increasing demand for the work I do as an ELD teacher. This course would help me to differentiate students who are not special needs but, rather, simply have the language barrier to overcome.
This will help me understand my students' educational needs so that I can better serve them. If I think that a student is learning disabled but in reality, it's just the language barrier or if a student has more of a need than just to learn the English language in I need to be able to identify this for my students in order to help facilitate an environment that will help create productive citizens for our community. Any help with this is greatly appreciated as we receive little training in this area from my district.
