The materials I am requesting for my classroom will allow my students, most of whom are not currently meeting grade level standards, the aid necessary in helping them bridge the gaps caused by Covid to get closer to grade level in ELA and math.
The books on kindness will help promote our class family and help my students cultivate relationships with others through kindness.
My students love read alouds and based on what they have been through in the last couple of years, a little push for kindness could be just what they need to have a successful school year.
The listening center headphones would allow my students to listen to stories on CD, as well as access grade level content on laptops in order to enhance their learning. The CVC unifix cubes would be a hands-on support for the students who are still working on letter sounds and blending sounds together. Being able to physically put the letters together using the blocks blend would be a beneficial manipulative to help those struggling students.
In second grade, multi-digit addition and subtraction are huge concepts that need to be learned and understood. The math manipulatives (1-100 pocket chart, magnetic base ten set, and the hands on/magnetic regrouping tools) would allow my students hands on visuals to aid in their learning with addition and subtraction. These materials could be used both for intervention, as well as enrichment to further challenge the students who have the concept down.
Finally, the book bags would allow students to keep the books they are reading all in the same place, as well as allow students to take books between home and school while keeping them protected. Plus it would encourage my students to read at home!
