Teaching to students with dyslexia requires repetition and practice to mastery. Finding items to read that match their phonics ability increases the practice in context and boosts their confidence because they realize that they can read! All they need is a different teaching method.
For some intelligent minds, blending "b-a-t" takes great effort. At times, the b will flip to a d, and it is hard to stretch the sounds together so that it even sounds like a word in your mind. It is a magical moment when a kid is able to blend the isolated sounds into a word they recognize.
