The Behavior Unit setting focuses on individualized behavior modification for an abundance of high needs students. The Behavior Unit staff utilizes positive reinforcers across the school campus; whether in the classroom, hallway, or cafeteria.
One of the main components of our positive reinforcement system is a "token economy". Students earn tickets when displaying positive behaviors and meeting expectations in the classroom. Tickets can be awarded for something as simple as helping a classmate or asking a critical thinking question in class. Tickets can be redeemed for a variety of items and privileges; this project is to fund those items and privileges.
The ultimate goal for our system is to teach positive, replacement behaviors for target behaviors. We extrinsically motivate these behaviors with the goal of having students demonstrate intrinsic motivation over time.
