My class is eager to learn, but most lack the pre-reading skills and number sense to be on grade level. Due to COVID-19 and the year and a half of distance learning, my students could use new materials to give them that push they need.
The use of whiteboards is a daily activity in my classroom, especially in phonics and math. The students spell words and write dictated sentences. The students will benefit from the whiteboards by practicing phonics, capitalization, punctuation, finger spacing, and language. In addition, my students use their whiteboards to answer story problems and write equations.
My class will use the headphones while they are practicing on school-wide programs such as Lexia for reading and ST Math for math. The students will use the headphones mostly during literacy groups and during math. The headphones will enhance our learning by providing focus. The goal is for students to complete 60 minutes of Lexia every week.
The chart paper will be used in class daily. Chart paper helps me create anchor charts, KWL charts, and RAN charts. I use these charts for reviewing a standard, activating prior knowledge, and providing information. One example includes a Bats RAN chart. I will use the book Stellaluna to teach the students new information and misconceptions on bats.
My class will also benefit from hands-on learning. In a science unit, my students learn different ways to be a scientist, which includes observing. We have hand lenses but need specimen to observe. My students will learn how to use a science tool to observe and then record the specimen in their science journals using labels and accurate colors.
By donating to our project, you will help improve focus, and you will ultimately help increase their academic achievement in math, phonics, and science. Thank you!
