I am a first-grade teacher at New Sarpy Elementary. This year is my third year at NSE. When I first started, I had to build my classroom from scratch. I spent many nights and weekends creating literacy and math stations, preparing lesson materials and manipulatives, putting together bulletin boards, and creating anchor charts for my students. As the 2021-2022 school year began, I finally felt that I was at a point where my classroom was "finished" and ready for students each day. However, hurricane Ida had other plans. Our entire first-grade hallway was destroyed when our roof was ripped off the building. Not only did I lose what I put into my classroom but my students lost part of their safe space. This grant would help me rebuild my classroom into a safe and fun learning sanctuary.
