Due to the covid pandemic and closure of schools, many have returned with trauma from this experience based off of their dysregulated home lives. unpredictability, loss of routines, disappointment. The unknown, unpredictable environments, lack of support from families who may have been working or disconnected from education.
We want to help our students feel that they are coming into a supported and safe environment that facilitates not only their learning but helps them reset their emotional button in a safe and respectful academic space.
Each student will be drawn differently to what the sensory room and objects have to offer as each student's brain works in different ways. We hope that using these tools it can help them learn to self-regulate and de-escalate any trauma-related outbursts without disrupting the learning environment.
