My students’ unique needs require specialized attention to ensure that they have safe and healthy in-person learning environments that is conducive to their social emotional and academic development. Aside from providing appropriate academic supports, my students need a classroom environment that fits their needs. Students came back into a super structured classroom environment after learning remotely from the comfort of their home for the past two years. A typical classroom full of old fashioned desks is not what students are used to anymore. It is very hard for them to sit still and conform to the idea of being in a classroom for 8 hours per day without much freedom of moving around. Yet study after study shows how essential movement is for learning. My students would benefit from Adjustable Activity Office Tilt Stools and an L-shaped desks that they can use to work on. After learning via zoom for so long and following worksheets that were displayed for them during online learning, my students will greatly benefit from having their worksheets displayed on a large screen via a Document Camera. It will help them know exactly which part we are going over and it will give them a chance to follow the lesson regardless of where they are in class.
