I will create a mindfulness center in my counseling office. Students will be able to come into it and re-center and calm themselves and return to class ready to learn. I will use the materials for both individual and small group support for those students who are struggling with anxiety and stress.
The center will have low lighting, a soft rug and beanbags chairs. The students will have the option of several mindful techniques to support their process, including fidget toys, art, music or simply quiet time for reflection.
Students who learn how to identify their stressors and cope with them will be better equipped to be more present for the learning that takes place within the classroom.
