I have a handful of students that are extremely sensitive to sensory input and the fluorescent lights are a challenge in my room. I have noticed fewer complaints of eye strain and less agitation when the lights are off, but we unfortunately can't keep lights off all the time. Many of my students came from our school's preschool which has covers on all of their lights, and it has been a difficult adjustment for them. My hope is to provide a more relaxed atmosphere with less visual input.
I also have several students that struggle to sit on the carpet due to inflexibilities, a lack of core strength, and fidgetiness. This impedes their ability to learn during whole group lessons, and also distracts their peers. By providing wobble cushions, I hope to provide them with enough support to sit comfortably, build strength, and move in non-disruptive ways.
