In my current classroom children want to read what they are connected to. COVID learners have been through an extreme injustice and only yearn to make connections to the things around them. This includes their learning, peers and teachers.
Equitable books and board games bridge the gap of learning and creating meaningful relationships. During our reading block, students will engage with these materials to find connections to texts, theme, main idea, and comparing and contrasting. This DONORS CHOOSE focuses on highlighting the diverse learners and interests in my classroom. Social emotional learning has to go hand in hand with academic content. I hope to inspire a rejuvenated love of reading and social connections with peers.
Some academic content standards; RL.5.1, RL.5.3, RL.5.6, RL.5.7, RI.5.1, RI.5.3, RI.5.6, SS.5.14, SS.5.18, SS.5.19. These standards along with many others will be achieved through implementation of items.
