After distant learning, the students I work with are showing difficulties in school beyond academics. They have lost social skills and they don鈥檛 know how to communicate and work with one another. We need ways where kids can learn social skills like how to take turns and how to interact with each other and how to know how to stop, pull back and learn from one another. Using these educational materials, students will learn how to work together as a team, to talk and to listen, to compromise and share. An example would be to have the students work with partners to sort rocks and minerals. Students will have to come up with a 'rule' as why certain rocks go together, either size, texture, sharp edges, etc. These activities with assist in collaborative learning, they allow students the time to talk to one another, follow rules to games and teach sharing:) When students completed a hands on activity like building a tower, sorting rocks, or completing a puzzle they build their conversational skills. These skills take time to learn. In the process, students need to express when they need a break or a time out. In addition, I have included material for them to use by themselves with they are stressed or feeling overwhelmed. There are materials in this project to give student a time out from peer to peer interaction. Time to regroup themselves before returning to peers. SL.1.1 Participate in collaborative conversations with diverse partners about grade 1 topics and texts with peers and adults in small and larger groups. SL.1.1a Follow agreed-upon rules for discussions (e.g., listening to others with care, speaking one at a time about the topics and texts under discussion).
