Study after study tells us that our student's Social Emotional Learning is the basis for success, not only in school but also in life. COVID-19 has greatly impacted my students' social-emotional skills.
With my students being quarantined for close to a year and a half, they have been unable to learn how to resolve conflicts with peers, work closely with their classmates, and learn skills to deal with disappointment. I believe that it is my responsibility as their second-grade teacher to help these students learn these skills. I have set aside 15 minutes daily for the whole class to learn these important skills.
These items I have chosen will help me to facilitate SEL learning in my classroom. Art supplies are the most sought-after supplies. My students sit around a designated table and color, draw, paint, and write while chatting and learning together. The games and STEM items are the most fun! My students work together planning and building with these items. My 2nd graders are learning SEL skills in my classroom that will last them a lifetime.
