In second grade, students must be able to read words by using phonics skills. They must know and apply grade-level phonics and word analysis skills in decoding words RF.2.3. The Touch and Read Phonics cards and sight word games will help my students practice those skills. I will also use the centers management chart to rotate my students through stations where they will practice sight words and phonics.
My students love listening to stories. I will use the easel to display books and anchor charts so that my students can learn important reading standards like, RL.2.1 Ask and answer such questions as who, what, where, when, why, and how to demonstrate understanding of key details in a text. They will also practice their reading comprehension skills with the comprehension center cards.
In math, my students need practice using number lines and ten frames to add and subtract. Our second grade standard is apply properties of operations as strategies to add and subtract 1.OA.B.3. The students will use the write and wipe boards to practice these skills, as well as the easel for whole group math instruction.
