Last year during COVID my students had a hard time getting to know others in their class and had no ability or opportunity to glaze their ceramic artworks. Since returning to the building the students are able to engage and get to know each other while forming friendships. In the clay studio we spend a lot of time working on meaningful art projects, getting to know one another better and increase their social skills by encouraging them to work together daily. Right now a lot of time is spent on the clay portion of their projects, but we have limited glazes available to finish off their creations. The underglazes will help them to add a lot of detail to their artwork and the matte and Jungle Jem glazes will give students the ability to show more of their creative side. My classroom is a place where kids can be themselves and work together to make beautiful art.
By having a variety of glaze materials available my students will be able to fulfil
standard - VA:Cr2.HS.1I Develop art making skills and techniques while making/designing works of art comparing methods of spontaneous and deliberate design. VA:Cr1.HS.2II Plan personal artwork or design choosing from a range of materials and methods of traditional and contemporary artistic practices and VA:Cr3.HS.1I Engage in constructive critique with peers, then reflect on, re engage, revise, and refine works of art and design in response to personal artistic vision.
