Individual whiteboards and group whiteboards around the room will be used several times during the week. It allows the students to work and collaborate together and allows me to see the work of many students at a quick glance to help direct them in the right direction.
In Geometry, the students will be designing and building a sand castle using the kinetic sand. They will be using given parameters and their knowledge of surface area and volume of prisms, cylinders, pyramids, cones, and spheres to design and build the sand castles.
The standards that will be used are:
7.1 - To know and apply the formula for the volume of prisms, cylinders, cones, pyramids, and spheres .
G.GMD.A.3 - Use volume formulas for cylinders, pyramids, cones, and spheres, and the surface area of a sphere to solve problems. *(Modeling Standard)
G.MG.A.1 -
7.G.B.6 - Solve real-world and mathematical problems involving area, volume and surface area of two- and three-dimensional objects composed of triangles, quadrilaterals, polygons, cubes, and right prisms.
8.G.C.9 - Know the formulas for the volumes of cones, cylinders, and spheres and use them to solve real-world and mathematical problems.
