Because my school site has a large population of students who have come to our school district from out of the country, low reading levels are widespread at the school. High school book rooms are often under prepared to provide for students who are unable to engage with existing materials. Parable of the Sower is a text which is well received by students every year- its language is simple and approachable, its subject matter relevant to students the text has and will help a greater diversity of students succeed in English.
This book has been a huge success at the school already! I'm applying for this donation to help resupply our collection of the books and make the text more widely available in class and around campus. Engendering students with a love of reading is possible and pairing it with rhetorical skills that will help them succeed is even better- effective classroom materials make both these things possible.
