The One and Only Ivan is a novel that was inspired by the true story of Ivan, a Silverback gorilla, who lives in a mall. Tales of a Fourth Grade Nothing is a coming-of-age chapter book where we meet Peter Hatcher, a 9-year-old Fourth Grader, who struggles with his younger brother's shenanigans. I will use these books as read-alouds with my whole class during the school year.
My goal is to help my students discover a love of reading and to immerse them in diverse situations that they can connect with and I cannot think of any better way to do this than with a physical book in their hands.
These novels are fantastic resources to teach various reading lessons. Being that each of these novels is the first in their series, my students will also be able to follow the character journeys in the sequels.
