My students are struggling to interact and engage with their teachers and peers now that they鈥檙e back in the classroom. They鈥檝e been stuck at home alone for so long that they鈥檙e uncomfortable speaking out. Having an iPad will allow me to use programs such as Nearpod and Peardeck to give my students a platform to communicate with me and their peers in a way that makes them feel safe and comfortable. I want them to use their voices and this is one way to make this happen. This will address their Speaking and Listening skills. An Apple Pencil will allow me to demonstrate annotation techniques for my students when I鈥檓 teaching them how to perform a close reading of a text. It will also allow me to provide more detailed feedback on student essays by allowing me to write directly on their digital submissions. I鈥檝e found students respond much better to written comments, that are written directly on their essay, than canned comments inserted at the end of their work.
