Although my district has returned to in-person learning, the student laptop is still used on a daily basis. Each day my class uses their laptop to read leveled books, take quizzes, watch math videos, and code (future computer scientists!). With a group of 27 lively and inquisitive 9 and 10 year-olds, the focus they give to their work depends on whether or not their friend is trying to talk to them, there is street noise outside, or I am helping another student. I find that the normal distractions in a classroom are difficult for students to accomplish their goals for the day. I have a lot of different skill levels in my class and the noise and natural business of a classroom can be detrimental to the learning of my students who struggle with focus. If each student had a pair of noise-cancelling headphones I believe that they will be able to accomplish more of their goals on a daily basis. As an adult I know that I need quiet and less distractions to read or work on my computer. Kids have those same needs and I hope to provide that for them with new headphones.
