This project will help my students meet today鈥檚 challenging standards through hands on activities focusing on math, SEL and creating an inclusive classroom. CCSS.MATH.CONTENT.2.NBT.B.5 Fluently add and subtract within 100 using strategies based on place value, properties of operations, and/or the relationship between addition and subtraction. Items such as 1-120 magnetic number chart, make a splash 120 mat, head full of numbers and giant dice all will help meet this math standard. CCSS.MATH.CONTENT.2.MD.C.7 Tell and write time from analog and digital clocks to the nearest five minutes, using a.m. and p.m. Items such as money bags helps children learn about money through hands on play. Social and emotional learning (SEL) is the process through which children and adults acquire and effectively apply the knowledge, attitudes, and skills necessary to understand and manage emotions, set and achieve positive goals, feel and show empathy for others, establish and maintain positive relationships, and make responsible decisions. Books help me teach my students about SEL: Self- Awareness- The Day You Begin, Hair Love, I walk with Vanessa, Alma and How She Got Her Name, and Just Ask. Games are a great way to help create relational skills needed for SEL. Games such as kid k'nex, marble run, gears, and rush hour. Making an inclusive classroom is important because it helps me meet my students where they are and move them to where they need to be. I can do that through soft seats, wobble chairs, ball seats, jumbo timer, highlighting tape and birthday wristbands.
