In our program, we use a lot of hands-on materials. Things like models, STEM centers, Play-Doh, and scientific research activities will help put materials directly into my students' hands, so they can fully immerse themselves into our inquiries. Because of the pandemic, students are coming to class lacking some fundamental reading and phonics skills. These materials will allow me to help target the needs of individual students who need help mastering skills they struggled with in 1st grade. Chart paper and markers will allow me to make posters and anchor charts to solidify vocabulary. And last, but not least, books that tell stories of cultures and topics we will be studying will be put into students' hands.
