Over 600 high interest books were lost when we were shut down for Covid 19. Despite every effort, many of our students left the area or withdrew from our school keeping our books. Once that happened we were unable to collect many of our most popular titles. It is so hard to tell a child that the book they want is not in our library. Knowing that there are not any funds to replace it makes it even harder. The NVAC standards are based on literacy. Standard 5 states that -The student who is an independent learner is information literate and appreciates literature and other creative expressions of information. 5.A Is a competent and self-motivated reader. It is part of my job as a librarian to provide my students with culturally diverse, relevant books. If I am approved for this funding, I will be replacing many of our lost books and also adding new titles of interest to our collection.
