I work at a small, community school of 470 located in Las Vegas. Our school serves a very diverse enrollment from Pre-K through 5th grade. My school receives limited funding, although we have several programs serving high needs students.
Like students all around the nation, ours have been significantly affected by the pandemic.
Being remote for most of the year, students have returned to school lacking academic and social skills. Receiving targeted supplemental materials will greatly increase our students' ability to grasp and retain, not only the standards expected of first grade students, but the kindergarten standards that may not have been mastered due to circumstances beyond their control.
In addition, our students have previously enjoyed working with community supplies. Due to COVID restrictions, each student requires individual manipulatives and supplies resulting in much faster consumption of daily materials. My hope is to be able to help my students have an amazing year in first grade, focus on both their educational and social needs and make up for some of the lost time due to the ongoing pandemic.
Thank you for your consideration.
