Last year was unprecedented! Many of my students attended kindergarten in person while many others opted for a full distance learning model. The consequences of inconsistent teaching/learning shows in many of my new first graders. I see "holes" in most of my distance learners; they struggle with kindergarten skills such as letter name recognition, letter sound and even letter formation. These students are not ready for the rigor of the ELA curriculum currently used by our district without interventions to help them catch up and fill in the missing gaps created last year.
Technology such as the iPad offer abundant opportunities for learning through a wide variety of apps. Programs used for interventions offer engaging stories, games, and songs that teach/reinforce critical skills needed by my beginning readers. It also offers opportunities for enrichment for my students who need more than first grade Tier 1 instruction provides. This iPad will complete a small set of classroom iPads giving me the opportunity to also use them during center rotations, enabling all my students to have the opportunity to learn with technology in the classroom. New headphones and a surge protector will complete the new iPad center.
And what can make life easier in any classroom? An industrial strength electric pencil sharpener of course!
Thank you for your consideration.
