The donations to this project will help give my students the opportunity to choose where they get to learn for the day. During the pandemic, most of my students had to learn from home, whether that was a choice or due to being quarantined. When learning at home, students typically didn't sit in a desk all day long. They were able to move around their house and sit however they wanted to be in order to be comfortable.
My goal as a teacher is to make my classroom environment fun, empowering, comfortable and safe for all of my students. This meaning took a turn during the pandemic because I was in uncharted territory in not knowing how to make those things happen. My students were struggling to sit at their desk all day long, they were uncomfortable. I want to give them the opportunity to choose where they and how they sit for the day. Just as if they were at home. I want my students to feel comfortable in my room. Students have gone through a lot this last 1.5 years in being scared with the unknown.
I want to teach them self-management and responsible decision-making (CASEL) when it comes to taking control of their learning. One thing I have on my wish list is the portable surf seats where my students can take their chromebooks and move around the room to work on various assignments writing assignments (L.3.1). I also have on my wish list is the big joe chairs where my students can find a comfy spot in the room and enjoy reading (RF.3.4). Once again, my overall goal as a teacher is to make my classroom environment fun, comfortable, empowering, and safe for all students.
