These titles will be used in a middle school 6th though 8th humanities classroom in a high-need area of San Diego with many multilingual learners and students with special needs. Students will select these books and form partnerships and clubs where they will support each other's reading, practice speaking and discussion, and deepen their comprehension and analysis. Our school offers a constructivist student-centered learning approach that utilizes the Lucy Calkins Reading Workshop model for reading instruction. The model features read-alouds, mini-lessons, independent reading, notebooking, and partner and club talk.
