Student literacy has been an issue at my school as it is. However, COVID has set our students back further because they lacked access to physical books. To combat that, I assign reading logs. Students are tasked with reading a book from my small library or the school's library to a younger sibling or a parent for 20 minutes. Then, they must summarize what they read, citing main ideas and details. Altogether, this promotes reading fluency and comprehension. Specifically, the library books I am asking for will help with standard CSS.ELA-LITERACY.RL.4.2. This standard is about determining a theme of a story, drama, or poem from details in the text; summarize the text.
