During COVID, my students did not have the opportunity to get hands-on experience in the lab, which is what my whole course is built around. To make up for it, I'm trying to get them in the lab as much as possible, and get them to work on being as independent as possible. In addition to the actual lab techniques, I'm trying to teach them to problem-solve and think critically. We need to do this as safely as possible and limit shared materials, so I'm trying to increase the availability of materials. One of the specific standards I'm trying to accomplish with this project is: "Plan and conduct an investigation individually and collaboratively to produce data to serve as the basis for evidence, and in the design: decide on types, how much, and accuracy of data needed to produce reliable measurements and consider limitations on the precision of the data (e.g., number of trials, cost, risk, time), and refine the design accordingly. (HS-LS1-3)".
