Students with Autism and intellectual disabilities have unique communication needs. This project will help me as a new Speech Language Therapist build my therapy materials and reinforcers to keep my students engaged.
My students are working on communication skills in order to express their wants and needs across multiple environments. Materials such as Picture Exchange Communication books will give my nonverbal students a voice giving them the ability to communicate to adults and peers. When working on learning how to communicate using PECS, we encourage the students by using preferred items. Preferred items include cause and effect toys, music, Ipads, food and bubbles. Lastly, getting a colored printer will allow my students to see the items exactly how they look in person. This will help with accuracy when making choices using PECS. Thank you for helping us build our SLP library!
