As a 6th grade ELA teacher, I want to use novel studies to help bring back the love of reading for my students. The novels I have chosen are more up-to-date than we currently have. The titles I have chosen are books that I have used in the past at other schools, and the students enjoyed the true story from A Long Walk to Water.
Inside Out and Back Again, is written in a style and voice that is easy for ALL reading levels to enjoy, and the story resonates with students that have come from other countries or cultures and had to learn how to become American.
Finally, I feel The Book Thief is timeless and a must read! The path of destruction Nazi Germany left behind should never be forgotten. Connections to today can be easily made while studying these novels.
