Currently, my students spend their lunch recess in a courtyard with some snack tables and some relatively dead grass. The only available options for play are chalk and a few hula hoops. I would love to be able to provide my students with a variety of equipment to play with during lunch recess time to help build their gross and fine motor skills and provide them with opportunities to just have fun and play.
I have selected activities that I know my students will enjoy and benefit from and will be able to use to collaboratively play together and develop deeper connections wit their peers. The sand box is something I have experienced many students in the past enjoy and I know that my students long to have a tactile manipulative they can get their hands dirty with, as they like to roll around and play in the dirt.
The basketball hoop and the slide provide students with the opportunity to run around and play together. I have also included magna tiles as a great way for my students to build their creativity, as they have shown a passion for building things! The Lego Duplo trains were added with a specific kiddo in mind that loves things on wheels and can be used as incentives to complete academic tasks and follow directions given.
