These books will be used to teach weekly social-emotional lessons in my classroom that align with our social-emotional curriculum. These books each touch on various skills and strategies that I am building with my first-grade students- like responsibility, growth mindset, inclusion, problem-solving and more.
Books are a great way for my students to see themselves or to develop empathy for those who are different from them.
Books can serve as windows or mirrors. Books that are windows help us see into others' lives, books that are mirrors we can see ourselves. The use of the selected books will help students facilitate rich conversations around their emotional and social development, giving them the tools to recognize and cope with the strong emotions they may feel.
