Each item selected was carefully selected with a student or group of students in mind. This school year has kicked off with obstacles and hurdles for the children that are beyond their control. Among the various trauma related distractions and worries, my students are also dealing with the not so normal school year of 2020. For some, this is their first experience in a classroom setting, which makes sitting at a standard desk and a chair, a challenge in itself.
I am looking to eliminate distractions to better help my students get the full education experience that they so desperately need and deserve. The flexible seating would be a game changer. The hard, standard classroom chairs are not suitable for my constant movers who need to wiggle their worries away while trying to focus. I purposely chose the bean bag and surf desks because of the durability, easy clean and water resilient material (Lysol wipes are my new best friend!) I also love how they are low to the ground, so students are not fidgeting and falling to the floor.
The worry monsters would be a HUGE help with my students who are not yet able to voice their worries and concerns. I find writing for them is a great way to express themselves without fear of feeling embarrassed or ashamed. The fidget chair bands and the handheld accessories, are all excellent ways for the students to get that built up anxiety and energy out in a quiet, but effective way without distraction to themselves or others. I believe if the children had access to these materials, it would greatly benefit them in the classroom both mentally and physically.
