Here in our class, we learn best by Hearing It, Seeing It and Touching It. As a 12:1:4 special education class, my students are not able to read or answer questions traditionally. During lessons, they learn best by Hearing It by reading a text heavily supported with visuals/pictures. As they are Hearing It and Seeing It, they comprehend the material better. And as they are Touching It, they are able to make a connection to the text.
To support my students with limited reading comprehension and limited mobility, I create adapted books that are laminated with visuals that are velcroed that the students are able to move and match. I also include as many hands-on activities during the lesson. The materials listed in the project will help me continue to make the best materials and activities for my students. We do not have a smartboard in our classroom, only a projection screen that is not accessible for my students, so much time is needed to create non-electronic tangible classroom materials.
