My students will be able to use these tools to investigate and question many modern problems through using the scientific method and research(SEP 1-8). The hotplate will bring the ability to mix and create different environment's for students to recreate and test within the lab(HS-ETS1-4). Understanding how mixtures create other products and being able to produce those at their hands will reinforce their learning and their excitement in science and effects in the real world(HS-PS1-4). Having a Ph meter in the class will provide many opportunities for the students to ask questions and research many topics within chemistry, including chemical reactions, acidic applications in food and our atmosphere(HS-PS2-6)(SEP1-8)(HS-ETS1-1). Using these tools, students will be able to ask questions, research their questions hands on in the lab, come to conclusions to what they have researched, and most importantly, create lasting knowledge of the curriculum being taught to carry into their lives and futures.
These tools will cement the experience learned through inquiry in chemistry for years to come, and provide the hands on learning these students so desperately need right now.
