I am hoping to include mindful movement and breathing techniques when I meet with students individually, in groups, and in the classroom that I am learning through a professional development program called Breathe for Change. I will be focusing on our school rules which are: care for self, care for others and care for our community. As I meet with students, in a variety of ways, I will walk them through the 8 SEL*F Breathe for Change Components which are: Settle in, Breath Awareness, Mindful Movement, Community Connection, Focus, Creative Expression, Relaxation, and Closing. I may use some or all of the components depending on the scenario and need for the students involved. SEL*F refers to social-emotional learning and the *F refers to the fact that I am not only focused on helping my students but caring for myself as well. The yoga mats and blocks will be used to teach students mindful movement and yoga poses which will help them learn strategies to calm their minds and bodies. We will also be using the mats for relaxation exercises and breathing techniques and meditation as well. The blocks assist students that may need accommodations. I would be helping the students at our school that are struggling with their social and emotional well-being.
