I teach 6-8 special education students. My students come from diverse backgrounds and socioeconomic status's and because of this, I try to create a sense of community in my classroom. I have classes that are a mix of grade levels, which allows me to create cross curricular and cross grade level activities. We get to share our experiences and things we have in common with each other. My students enjoy building relationships, working in groups, and learning from each other, not only academics, but about life in general.
