Due to a lack of funding for our school, our classroom had a window cooling unit installed. Though this is in attempt to subdue the effects caused by only having evaporative cooling throughout our campus, this created a safety hazard as the blinds can no longer close. In the case of a school emergency or lockdown, the windows must be opaque for the safety of the students and everybody inside. These new window coverings will allow for an inviting ambiance and enhance the reading and discussion that takes place in my English II/AP English IV classroom. My students have expressed that they feel a sense of comfort by the inviting ambiance I have tried to provide them with however, the new changes have affected this ambiance. Adding these components to the classroom will bring back that comfort and help students lower their effective filter when it comes to the learning process. Since the material students are working with tends to be dense in nature, I want to be sure I am providing them with every opportunity to succeed and in an environment where they can be comfortable and allow learning to take place in an organic and authentic manner.
