My classroom is a high-needs room with students who have various disabilities. These students focus on various life skills throughout the school day. These include learning how to cook, personal hygiene, learning how to clean, shredding, can crushing, counting money, learning informational signs, and laundry. These skills that they are working on allows them to gain more independence. By having them learn these skills now allows for them to progress as they graduate school and venture into the world where they may be living independently in an apartment.
My goal for this project is to create scrapbooks for students so they have something to look back at during the summertime to see all of the skills they worked on during the school year. These scrapbooks will be decorated by the students. They will include pictures of them cooking, doing job tasks, shopping at the grocery store, doing science experiments with classmates, and various other things. These scrapbooks may also bring comfort to my students during the summertime and may even provide them excitement for the next school year. It is also a wonderful thing for the parents to see what their student has worked on during the school year!
