My students love making art. They come into the art room ready to explore new ideas. A pencil that won't sharpen nicely or a marker that is not working is frustrating and sometimes halts the excitement. The students are good about solving these problems but it takes away from time they could be making art. Having sets of high quality colored pencils and a professional grade pencil sharpener in the classroom, as well as hand held sharpeners at each desk, will keep the artists excited and working.
By donating to my project the young artists will have high quality art materials that will support their creativity.
Kids love expressing themselves with their art. I want them to focus on the new skills they are learning and not the art supplies. I know their effort and perseverance produces artwork that is treasured by their families for a lifetime. One of the most treasured projects is ceramics. We are lucky to have a kiln in our classroom and each student will be learning clay techniques. Being able to glaze their work will raise the excitement to a new level.
