You know that in today's times, people are at odds against one another. My students need that "quiet place," that refuge. When I first walked into my classroom, after setting up the 36 student desks and chairs, I felt like I was in a factory! "It's all work today, Kids. No funny business. No fun." Nope ... something has to change. We had a whole week of training this summer about helping our students FEEL welcomed, FEEL the love and care. With that in place, I can learn anything with my peers, each student would say.
Your gifts will help establish that "Place of Calm." With that corner of my classroom established, my students will know that we as a school staff care about them. They are real people who do not just earn their best scores, but they are children who have a space to decompress in the classroom as well. A place to celebrate. A place to be valued and respected.
