Our school district has a goal that every third grader will end the year reading on level. This means it's crucial that my students have access to high-interest chapter books. Studies show that independent reading is the best predictor of overall reading success, so it's important that my classroom library be full of titles my kids will be thrilled to see.
"The more one reads, the better one reads, and the more one reads, the more one learns about the people and happenings of our world," Allington wrote. I want to ignite my students' passions for reading so they have these opportunities. By providing them with copies of graphic novels like Smile and fascinating chapter books like Diary of a Wimpy Kid, I can help my students learn about the world around them.
These books will be used to grow my classroom library. Students will be able to select books that are interesting to them and read them daily during our reading workshop. They will also be able to take these books home to borrow and enjoy. My goal is for each student to know they are both readers and leaders, and for these books to spark a new passion for each and every student.
