If I were to receive these flexible seating options, I could ensure that my students were staying safe, abiding by Covid protocols, but not going "butt and brain numb." My students are, on average, 10 or 11 years old. It is extremely important at that age that students be able to move and be active. However, last year and this year coming up, their moving is so limited based on Covid protocols. If my students were to be able to be more comfortable, sit on a wiggle seat, or bounce their feet on a desk band rather than bite nails, they could focus better on what I am teaching rather than getting squirmy and causing disruptions.
If I could offer flexible students to every student in my class, students with an IEP or 504 who have accommodations for a wiggle seat or special chair would not be singled out or deal with other students trying to "borrow" their seat.
I could also use flexible seating as an incentive/motivator for students. For example, whoever has the most AR points this week gets the first choice on what chair they want for the week. Or whoever earns the most Dojo points for positive behavior, meets their math goals for the month, etc.
