I want my students to be inspired. I want them to feel the excitement of the world in the late 20th century when we realized that we had the means to apply Newton's 3rd Law to leave our world.
After we have studied how every force has an equal and opposite reaction, I want them to use the force of the air and water leaving a 2-liter bottle to push them into the stars. My students will design, build, and experiment to see who can get their rocket the highest.
This project wraps up our study of force and motion and LITERALLY sends us into space. Then we will be focused on how those same laws of motion govern planets, moons, stars, comets, solar systems, galaxies, and the universe.
