I used to get so frustrated by my students standing up and walking or making extra trips to the restroom, to get water, to go to the nurse, or to get out of their desks for any reason they could think of. One student in particular would stand at my counter and always worked better when he did, so I let him. Soon, other students followed. I was a little irritated by it, but observed staff standing in the back of long professional development meeting as well. If we as adults need to stretch, and can focus better by standing...why can't my students? Counter space became such a hot commodity that I had to rotate my students so everyone could get a turn. Standing desks would make much more sense than having them bend over the counter and these would give them space for their supplies and ChromeBooks as well. I recognize that students learn differently and when they are able to do so in a way that makes sense for them, they will thrive.
